Chance, Destiny, ...

Wich part for the free will

What is in writing ? What can we change ? Can we chose the life we want to live ? That is a very interesting point to consider because many people come to ponder over these issues once in a while. One might wonder what Feng Shui has to do with it. This article is an introduction to the traditional vision that is carried out by the cosmic trinity and the affect Feng Shui might have.

According the Chinese tradition there are 5 key points that determine our life, they are presented below by order of importance :

Destiny

Astrology means destiny calculation in Chinese. Like in the west, the moment of birth is taken into account, that very minute when we take our first breath in that contains the energy of the universe such as it is then.

The mere idea of destiny is not highly considered in the west because we generally consider that we are the sole captain on board. Destiny matches with karma. In Chinese, yuan means that source, origin and is used to define yuan yuan : destiny, true karma. means life and destiny, this character is used to write words such as name or life line.

Karma is the application of the cause and effect principle : all actions, whether good or bad, will have an effect on our present or future life. All the actions taken in previous lives result in the life we have today. Karma is the backbone of our psychological mechanism. There are ways to change our destiny but few of us can follow the path.

Fortune

yun is used to write terms that have to do with transportation, orbits, mathematics, movement, all that can be predicted.

It's the interaction between the universe and one's own energy. Therefore it cannot be changed. If the energy of the universe is bad for me today, there is nothing I can do, it is just not a good day. That's why Tong Shu is so important to Chinese people. This calendar indicates precisely the type of energy day after day.

Destiny is the base line, fortune represents the fluctuations along the line.

Feng Shui

Feng Shui could be seen as including two parts. One offers ways to read how an individual's energy interacts with the universe's. The other means to change the environment so that the interactions change and benefit the individual.

Chinese tradition considers that although it is not possible to change destiny and fortune, it is possible to make the best out of them and Feng Shui will help to do so.

Yin vertues

Yin represent the invisible side of the world. Yin virtues are these beneficial actions that we do without everybody around being informed. If you hold a press conference to notify the country that you offer 1 million euros or dollars for charity work, you accumulate bad karma because in that case you are only inflating your ego. Yin virtues purify your karma. You practice yin virtues when you don't expect anything in return.

Work

Work and endeavour to reach the goal you have set for yourself.

To act

From a Buddhist point of view, there is no difference between fortune, destiny and Feng Shui. A Feng Shui audit tries to read the invisible, it is already putting light on particular issues; so change is already ongoing. In this respect, it is yang.

When we use I Ching for destiny reading, we relate in a very yin manner to the universe : the reading doesn't change the universe, it starts a transformation within the individual. In Buddhism, meditation is used to transform oneself, and this transformation will eventually manifest outside. Feng Shui is yang because it gives us a chance to change the environment in which we exist hence change ourselves and the general conditions of our lives. From that point of view, Feng Shui can help us immensely by alleviating the burdens of incarnation.

In some cases, Feng Shui will not operate or changes will cause little improvements. This is the case when the difficulties an individual encounters are of yin origins. Changes operated in yang realms will not be efficient or will take very long to manifest, results will be scarce even though issues appear very clearly in the place. This is because there is a strong coherence between what is inside and what is outside, between the universe manifestations and underlying energies. Should one be in such a situation, yin practices such as yin virtues and meditation will help to improve his condition.
