Cures

A cure is something you implement in order to alleviate some difficulties without changing drastically things inside or outside the building. In classical feng shui there are very few cures that are considered effective. The reason why it is so is quite easy to understand: cures rely on the usage of very material element meant to deal with something that is not just material.

Usage of colors and materials

How easy and tempting to use colours and real materials to enhance or cure bad qis! Although it's true that elements are used to describe the qis (fire, water, wood, metal and earth), they should not be confused with the actual elements. Red is the only colour that is considered as having a real and strong effect on the qis feng shui deals with. Using blue (water) wall paint for your bedroom will not grow wood, it may though truly give your bedroom a cooler or darker shade.

Having said this doesn't mean colours don't have an effect on our metabolism and psychee. It's just that feng shui and metabolism are different issues. So there is no need to redo all your flat walls and sell the brand new bamboo sofa in order to enhance or weaken the qis in the room. And this is rather good news as it means decoration and feng shui are different issues. Hence you can live and work in places that enjoy very good feng shui and still have the decoration you like.

Objects

Here are objects and cures used by generations of feng shui masters.

Salt cure

  • Take a vase, if possible it should be round. It can be of plastic or glass. Don't pick up your favourite crystal container as you might not get it back!
  • Fill it up to 3/4 with kitchen salt.
  • Fill up with water.
  • Remember to put something under the vase as salt will slowly run outside the vase and might corrode whatever is under it.
  • Water will eventually evaporate, so you will have to add some every so often.

Convex mirror

This type of mirror is meant to disperse energy that would otherwise be too agressive for the building and its residents. This might be the case when facing antennas, some trees, pylons, sharp angles, ...

It is convex so that it doesn't reflect this energy back to its source. It should always be set within a pakua (see picture).

This type of mirror should always be placed outside the house, never inside. It is usually fixed above a window or a door, opposite the source of the malevolent qi. Mind you don't put it too high up, under a balcony for example: in such a case you might discover it doesn't reflect the source of bad qi anymore but the balcony concrete!

Metal chimes and bells

Bells and metal chimes act like the salt cure. Its metal like energy is used to weaken the 5 Yellow star qi. Rodes must be of metal and the sound must be pleasant to hear.

If you choose to use a metal chime or a bell to weaken the yearly 5 Yellow, please remember it should be relocated every year.
