Feng Shui, science of the earth

To look at our environment beyond appearances
Feng shui is a classical Chinese art that offers to apprehend a reality our 5 senses don't allow us to see.
We tend to think that what looks beautiful is meaningful and does us good even though many old western tales warn us against these erroneous concepts regarding ugliness and beauty. What is deeply good for us does not necessarily look good or cannot be derived from appearances.
Classical feng shui is basically a grid of reading of our environment. Likewise western science has a great many tools to look in to the matter or watch the cosmos. Asian science knows feng shui.
Live with the land
For 4000 years, principles and methods were set and checked. They have been summoned in theoretical and practical classics. The layman is always surprised to see how technical, sophisticated and rigorous this is.
Thanks to observation and measures it is possible to understand the world around us. A place is nourished by the roads, rivers, mountains or buildings of the landscape around. The structure of the place indicates if this input is auspicious and made available to its residents.
Few people can afford to drastically change their external environment. One should hence pick up his home or work place so that it matches his goals. Whether we kow it or not, we can never enjoy more than what our environment offers.
To create a location that supports our projects
Feng shui refers to qi (or chi), this exact same word that's to be found in Tai Chi or Chi Kung. The word "energy" is often used instead of qi but this might lead to confusion with energies such as gravitational or electrical energies.
In a given location, multiple qis can be found and a wide variety of parameters must be taken into account to determine which have what impact, who is affected and when this will occur or has happened.
Even when the place already exists, some changes can be considered to make it possible to tap into good qis and avoid those that are not benevolent. Changes though don't regard decoration and appearances. The internal structure, the way people can walk across the place, the location of doors ... all these elements affect the qi reaction.
Of course more can be achieved if you can place precisely the building within the environment so as to tap into good qis and avoid being affected to inauspicious qis.
